First Melbourne Cabaret Festival shows announced

Celebrating our tenth year, we’re thrilled to present an eclectic and exciting range of shows. The first six shows outlined below are now on sale. Click here to book.

Direct from New York, world-renowned actor and singer Alexis Fishman and band brings her new, hilarious and uplifting show AMY WINEHOUSE: RESURRECTED – see Amy resurrected, revived and reimagined.

Award winning, international jazz chanteuse, Fem Belling brings to life the rare and racy songs of the early decades in FEM ‘N ‘N ORGAN. This show opens a door to a truth of music deeply rooted in human history often neglected on the jukebox.

Winner Best Cabaret in the 2018 Melbourne Fringe Festival and nominated for multiple Green Room Awards, CREATURES OF THE DEEP (pictured) is a documentary style cabaret set under the sea, containing fun original songs and messages of ocean sustainability.

Acclaimed writer & pianist, Damon Smith brings you CRAZY ARMS, A FEW CENTURIES OF PIANO TINKERING – a preposterously zany, musical adventure that spans the origins of the piano from its birth in 1709 through to the 20th century.

In AGE OF STEPHEN, Stephen Valeri is here to convince you that he and John Farnham share a spiritual connection AND cram as many bangers as possible into one hour. “A jam-packed, fun- filled hour of entertainment with big audience appeal” – The Blurb

We’re also thrilled to announce a cabaret partnership with the Musical Theatre course at the VCA. This year, the ‘VCAbaret’ partnership sees the next generation of cabaret stars celebrating the 50th anniversary of WOODSTOCK.

More shows will be announced next week!

Festival co-producer David Read said “We are honoured in our tenth anniversary year Drew and Sally have agreed to be our Ambassadors. We have worked alongside them in previous cabaret festivals and have always been struck by their creativity and professionalism. They are strongly admired within the industry by performers and producers alike. They will be an additional source of support for all performers in this year’s line-up, which will be announced in the coming weeks.’’

Drew said “The Melbourne Cabaret Festival is the perfect place to trial original works or launch a major concert. There’s a show and a seat for everyone.”

Sally said “I’ve been performing in cabaret for over 20 years in Australia and in London. I was privileged to be one of the headline acts at the inaugural Melbourne Cabaret Festival 10 years ago and since then have watched the festival grow and continue to present some of the best talent around.”

The Melbourne Cabaret Festival is made possible through the generous support of the Stonnington City Council, the ron and margaret dobell foundation and Quest On Dorcas Apartment Hotel. It will take place Wednesday 19 until Sunday 30 June 2019 at Chapel Off Chapel.
